The history of our company

1945

Beginnings

On 9 August 1945, Tadeusz Szymański received a charcutier’s certificate from the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce. With the war at an end, he started a household business in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki, where he produced cured meats in the years 1945–1948, until industry was nationalised and private business initiatives were prohibited by the government.

1970

Renewal

In 1970, a new communist government in Poland allowed the establishment of private craft businesses.

After working for many years at the local PPS Społem meat processing plant, Tadeusz Szymański gave up his job in the nationalised industry and opened a small cured meats business, producing mainly offal.

At that time he employed around 15 people.

1980

From father to son

In 1980, because of Tadeusz’s illness, the family business was taken over at the young age of 22 by his only son, Wojciech Szymański.

With the change of owner, the name of the firm was changed from “Cured Meats and Blood Sausage T. Szymański” to “Cured Meats and Blood Sausage W. Szymański”.

1992

Lukullus

In 1992, the foundations of product marketing were laid in Poland. To stand out from its competitors, the firm changed its name to Lukullus Meat Processing W.K. Szymański.

The name of the firm and brand were chosen in honour of the great Roman leader Lucullus, who was famed for his love of luxury goods and for holding sumptuous feasts.

1994

Leoncin

The growing interest in Lukullus products among consumers meant that production volume needed to be increased. In 1994 the firm moved to a new site, as Wojciech Szymański bought up an abattoir and meat processing plant in Leoncin, a village in Kampinos Forest. The capacity of the new plant meant that production could be increased ten times over.

2003

HACCP/EU

In 2003, for the purpose of monitoring of the production process and ensuring food safety and the declared quality of products, Lukullus introduced an HACCP system.

Since 2003 the firm has been entered on the General Veterinary Inspectorate’s list of producers permitted to trade with the EU.

In the years 2010–2015 the firm worked largely on creating a modern marketing strategy and on a rebranding of Lukullus, as well as on adapting internal and external organisational procedures to corporate standards.
